What should you do when using the ball mill for the first time?

Ball mill is suitable for grinding virous ore and other material. It is widely used in mineral processing. The following are techniques for filling steel balls into a ball mill:
I. Initial Ball Loading Techniques
1. Phased Loading: Newly installed ball mills require a break-in period. Typically, only 80% of the steel balls are added initially. The break-in time usually depends on the equipment specifications and ore properties, generally ranging from one week to two weeks. Once the equipment is running stably and all indicators are normal, the steel balls can be gradually added to full load.
2. Proportioning Principles: Large balls account for 30%-40%, providing impact crushing force; medium balls account for 30%-40%, balancing impact and grinding; small balls account for 30%, filling gaps to enhance grinding.

II. Grading Optimization Techniques
Adjust according to material characteristics: For hard materials, increase the proportion of large balls to improve impact crushing capacity; for fine materials, increase the proportion of small balls to enhance grinding effect.
III. Steel Ball Replenishment Techniques
1. Regular Replenishment
Replenishment Timing: After normal operation, assess wear based on decreased output, abnormal grinding noise, or reduced power.
Targeted Replenishment: Calculate the required steel ball size and proportion based on the particle size distribution of the material being ground, avoiding efficiency losses caused by simply adding larger balls.
IV. Discharge Particle Size
The particle size of the discharge depends mainly on on-site operation, controlling the feeding and water addition.
For coarser particles, add more material and water; conversely, for finer particles, add less material and water.
Before shutting down at the end of the workday, no material should remain in the mill. Do not feed material before shutdown; only run water to flush the mill, preventing sedimentation at the bottom and subsequent restarting of the ball mill.
