What is the Functions of Ball Mill Liners

The inner surface of a ball mill cylinder is typically lined with liners of various shapes. These liners are the main wear parts of a ball mill, and their performance directly affects the overall performance of the mill.

1. Protecting the Mill Shell and Extending its Service Life: Ball mills, as large mining equipment, are expensive, have high investment costs, and are inconvenient to maintain. However, the price of the liner is only about 2% to 3% of the total price of the ball mill, and it is easy to replace. Therefore, the primary function of the ball mill liner is to protect the mill shell, preventing it from being impacted by materials and steel balls during operation and thus shortening its service life.
2. Enhancing Mill Shell Rigidity and Preventing Deformation: Because the liner is tightly connected to the ball mill shell, it significantly enhances the shell’s rigidity, effectively preventing premature deformation.
3. Lifting Material and Steel Balls: Due to the different shapes of the liners, including corrugated and stepped shapes, when the mill rotates, the shape and friction of the liner can transfer energy to the material and steel balls, lifting them and imparting them with potential energy and kinetic energy for impact. This causes them to generate a “circular arc-parabolic” trajectory that meets the requirements of the grinding process, impacting and grinding the material.
4. Classifying steel balls: Among the classifications of ball mill liners, there is an automatic classifying liner. It can classify steel balls of different sizes, concentrating larger diameter steel balls at the feed end of the ball mill cylinder to crush large pieces of material, and concentrating smaller diameter steel balls at the discharge end to crush smaller pieces of material.
