The ball mill is used to grinding materials; it is through the continuous impact of the steel ball on the material to crush the ore to achieve a satisfactory particle size. This lays a good foundation for the minerals separation, and the steel ball plays a vital role in the structure of the entire ball mill. The size of the steel ball and the number of steel balls both determine the particle size. The main hazards of ball mill with a large ball diameter are including:

1.Large ball diameter of ball mill will increase media wear, the average diameter of steel balls in domestic ball mills is 1.5-1.6kg/t, some even reaches 3.0kg/t, and the unit consumption of foreign steel balls is usually about 0.8kg/t. This is related to the material and processing quality of steel balls. Hard nickel alloy steel balls and linings are generally used abroad, and carbon steel balls are mostly used in China. However, the large ball diameter is also one of the reasons. Because the wear of the steel ball is related to the weight, the consumption of the large ball is higher than that of the small ball.

 

2. Large ball diameter of ball mill will with stronger impact force on the lining of the mill, the lining and the screw head of the fixed lining are seriously worn, the barrel is easy to leak, and the life of the lining is shortened. Sometimes due to the lack of strict management, the phenomenon of “bulging belly” of the mill during the grinding process, the grinding particle size is unqualified, and no detailed investigation is made. It is simply attributed to the lack of large balls in the mill, so the large balls are added. Proportion, this is also an important reason for the large diameter of the rough grinding ball mill in China. At the same time, the large diameter of the ball mill will also cause the increase in energy consumption of grinding.

 

3. Large ball diameter of ball mill will exacerbate the unevenness of the particle size of the grinding products. Therefore, the over-crushing of the mineral particles and the increase in the phenomenon of incomplete grinding result in an uneven particle size distribution of the product, which not only affects the subsequent fine grinding operation, but also aggravates the wear of equipment such as pipelines and sand pumps and increases the production cost of the enterprise.
