Jaw crusher is one of the most popular equipment in mine industry production. It is often used as primary and secondary crusher for mining, metallurgy, construction and some other industries. It takes large pieces of rock, ore, concrete, or other materials, and crush them down to smaller sizes for further processing in a ball mill or hammer crusher. It is widely used in mining, road, metallurgy, building materials, railway, road, slag, water conservancy and chemical industries for crushing various materials with compression strength less than 350 Mpa. It is suitable for crushing all kinds of hard and soft ores with less than 300MPa compressive strength such as quartz, granite, basalt, limestone, river stone, sandstone, shale, marble, iron ore, copper ore, gold ore, rock gold etc.

Working Principle

When material is fed into the crushing chamber of a jaw crusher (the space formed by the fixed jaw plate and the movable jaw plate), the movable jaw plate performs a periodic reciprocating motion. As the movable jaw plate moves toward the fixed jaw plate, the material is subjected to compression, splitting, and bending forces, leading to fragmentation. When the movable jaw plate moves away from the fixed jaw plate, material that has been crushed to a size smaller than the discharge opening falls out from the bottom discharge port due to gravity. Material that is not fully crushed descends to the lower part of the crushing chamber, where it undergoes further compression, splitting, and bending until it reaches the desired size and is discharged.

Replacement of Wear Parts

The jaw plates are the vulnerable parts for jaw crusher.

The fixed jaw plate (tooth plate), movable jaw plate (tooth plate), and side liners (guard plates) of a jaw crusher are prone to wear. Severe wear can lead to increased product particle size.

  • Initial Wear Stage:

When liners show early signs of wear, they can be reversed (flipped) for extended use.

Alternatively, swap the upper and lower liners to balance wear distribution.

  • Replacement Criteria:

Jaw Plates: Wear is typically concentrated in the middle and lower sections. Replace the plate when 3/5 of the tooth plate is worn away.

Side Liners: Replace when 2/5 of the liner thickness is worn down.
